The Windows registry is a database repository of information about a computer's configuration. When you install, uninstall, or simply use software programs, registry entries are created, modified, or deleted. To completely uninstall software, its related registry entries must be deleted. This step-by-step article describes how to delete registry keys and values manually.
Warning: Manually deleting registry entries is difficult and risky. If you delete the wrong registry keys or values, your computer may crash and important data may be lost. Before you start, always be sure to back up your PC important files and set a System Restore point (click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore, and follow the on-screen instructions) or run Final Uninstaller, a trusted uninstaller software, to automatically delete unwanted registry entries and clean registry.
Deleting Registry Entries Manually
Click on the button and then select the Run... option
Type "regedit" in the Open: field and then click on the button button to open Registry Editor.
In the Registry Editor, use the left pane to navigate to the subkey you want to delete, or to the subkey that contains the value (in the right pane) you want to delete.
If you're deleting a subkey, make sure it's selected on the left. If you're deleting a specific registry value, make sure it's selected on the right. Then press the key or click the right mouse button and click Delete.
If you're deleting an entire subkey on the left, you'll be prompted with this Confirm Key Delete message:
If you're deleting one or more individual values on the right, you'll be prompted with this Confirm Value Delete message:
No matter the confirmation message, click on the button to delete the key or value.
Exit Registry Editor.
